SmartFLeX BiZCON and SmartFLeX Technology announce cooperation
March 24, 2010, Easton, PA: SmartFLeX BiZCON and SmartFLeX Technology today announced their cooperation... [more information coming soon]
SmartFLeX Technology releases new SmartClient software
February 24, 2010, Easton, PA: SmartFLeX Technology releases its new SmartClient Software as the new base of its SmartClient (Thin Client) product line. “At its core, the new SmartClient software stack is a radical shift from how standard Thin Client software is designed” says Hans L. Knobloch, President and CEO of SmartFLeX Technology Inc. “It reduces the work and cost associated with porting the software to new upcoming Thin Client hardware platforms by 70% because unlike our old NETiON Framework, where the entire SmartClient software stack was developed in “C” and integrated into a customized Linux system, we developed a LAMP based system that does not rely on a any particular Linux system”. Othmar Ehrhardt, Director of Development adds, “The web server + MySQL – PHP based system is easy to customize, port and maintain if underlying hardware and Linux system continues to evolve over time. The excellent hardware detection of todays' Linux systems allows us to provide these new SmartClient solutions not only as a standard hardware based Thin Client solution, but also as USB stick bootable, and VM solutions for PCs”. Knobloch explains further, “Any Linux compatible PC and any Windows or Linux Desktop system can now be turned into an effective Thin Client (SmartClient) solution”.
The new SmartClient software will power the entire SmartClient product line, including FLEXiON, NETiON, CXC, and the EPSiON SiLENT-PC. The complete SmartClient line will vary only in their actual Thin Client module stack and their product definition targeting certain customer types. The bootable USB SmartClient allows customers to use any Linux compatible hardware that can boot via USB flash media as a temporary or permanent Thin Client solution. Additionally, as an alternative to the bootable USB solution, an IDE or SATA or even SSD solution is offered. This will be particularly interesting to OEMs wanting to use their own hardware as a base for their Thin Client solutions. Users who concurrently need traditional Windows or Linux desktop PCs and a unified Thin Client solution, can use Virtual SmartClient images running on top of their PC operating system via Virtual Box or VMware player.
Below is a “hotlist” of some of the most exciting features found in the new SmartClient software:
The entire array of SmartClients can be equipped with the following standard Thin Client modules: ThinLinc, NX, ICA, xRDP, VNC, XDMCP, and a professional Legacy Terminal Emulator Suite. Thankfully, an integrated up to date Browser and some other already installed applications can be enabled as well.
Wireless and multi-media capabilities are available by default and a fully featured CUPS print server can be used to handle local and remote printing tasks.
All SmartClients provide a multi-session and multi-desktop capable Windows “look and feel” like Desktop System.
Any SmartClient's Thin Client setup offers a direct remote-administration solution via any other SmartClient or PC browser.
A clear and thorough system manual is integrated into the SmartClient OS and can be easily accessed by the user via the Task Bar Menu.
Maybe the most important feature is that these SmartClients can be (for the first time in the history of Thin Clients) extended by customers who own non-standard Thin Client modules, applications and front ends. Even additional preferred browsers can be added. These customer supplied new functions and applications can be conveniently
integrated into the Task Bar Menu for easy access.
A sophisticated update system allows automated updates from a customers ftp server, or from USB flash via the standard SmartFLeX Technology update and upgrade modules. Customers can create their own modules, making their own applications readily available for all SmartClients.
A professional corporate grade Client Management System (CMS) is being developed and will be available soon.
The overall flexibility and innovative technology seamlessly integrated into the SmartClient software stack make it a sophisticated, but easy to handle software framework to develop advanced Thin Client solutions for the ever evolving Cloud Computing market.
SmartFLeX Technology with over 15 years of Thin Client development experience is open to discuss licensing options for OEMs interested in develop their own Thin Client solutions.
SmartFLeX Technology is a leading Thin Client and Linux Technology provider since 1993.

Thin Client solution wins "Sveapriset" 2009
November 17, 2009 The municipality of Karlstad was announced the winner of the Swedish IT prize "Sveapriset" for their "smart workplace" solution.
Karlstad's solution utilises the new SITHS smart-card standard for health care in Sweden, based on the National Strategy for eHealth and Cendio's thin-client system, ThinLinc. The prize was handed over to Karlstad municipality council chairwoman Lena Melesjö Windahl at a ceremony at The Opera House in Gothenburg, by the Swedish Minister of Health Göran Hägglund.
"We have developed this solution based entirely on the users requirements and all parts are adapted to suit their needs" says Inge Hansson, Head of IT at Karlstad municipality.
"This is a real breakthrough for us within the health care sector" says Johan Igheimer, CEO of Cendio. "This gives users the flexibility to move from location to location they truly need in their daily work taking care of patients, not mentioning the efficiency increase and cost savings aspects of the ThinLinc solution.
Saab deploys ThinLinc Thin Client Terminal Server Solution in Gripen development
Saab deploys Cendio's thin-client solution ThinLinc for some areas in the further development of the Gripen System. ThinLinc allows Saab to eliminate the problem of different tools requiring different operating systems, a key consideration in migrating to thin-client technology.
“We believe that ”ThinLinc will give us the flexible thin client based virtualization solution that we need in our development process” says Sofia Thorn, head of IS/IT strategy at Saab Aerosystems.
Development work which previously required special workstations or forced workers to use multiple computing platforms can now be performed in a single environment. Linux-based visualization tools, analysis software running on UNIX platforms and design tools in Windows can now co-exist on the same desktop. Developers benefit from features including the flexibility to work from any location, while maintaining performance in graphic-intensive applications.
“We are very proud to announce our cooperation with Saab” says Hans Leidebring, sales director at Cendio AB. “This new investment acknowledges the quality of our ThinLinc software”.
The Gripen multi-purpose combat aircraft is the first of the new generation to enter service. It is designed to meet the demands of current and future threats, while at the same time meeting strict requirements for flight safety, reliability, training efficiency and low operating costs. Gripen is in service with the Swedish, Czech Republic and Hungarian Air Forces and has also been ordered by South Africa and Thailand. The UK Empire Test Pilots’ School (ETPS) is operating Gripen as training platform for test pilots worldwide.

11/11/09: SmartFLeX Technology, Inc. announces pending release of its complete new SmartClient Product Line
SmartFLeX Technology Inc. is in the process of finalizing the redevelopment of its SmartClient (TM) product line. The first release of the new SmartClient product line will become available in December. "All new SmartClients (NETiON, FLEXiON, CXC, EPSiON) will share a common platform in terms of hardware and software" Hans L. Knobloch, President & CEO says, "Our new software is highly customizable to accommodate our customers needs for either dedicated Thin Client appliances and/or flexible and open Thin Client appliances", Knobloch adds. All SmartClients share a common remote administration technology incorporating a simple browser based direct device remote administration option, and a fully fledged corporate style remote administration option where complete SmartClient networks can be managed with an universal central Client Management System (available 1'st quarter of 2010). The radical new design concept, developed and then defined as the new base system for the new SmartClient platform was created by the company's CEO. It allows to add or remove (will be added later) functionality modules by a system administrator "on the fly" as needed. This will ensure that customers buying SmartClients will have their investment protected for years to come. The new SmartClients will also be released as bootable USB stick or IDE and SATA Flash solutions, and as virtual machine images for (virtual) Desktop integration. The newly integrated ThinLinc Version 3.x client will be able to act as an enhanced VDI client and connection broker for VMWare. All other client modules are updated to the newest stable releases.
Unlike the old CXC network terminal, the new CXC SmartClient will be a fully integrated part of the new SmartClient product line and will therefor benefit from regular update and release cycles and hardware upgrades and updates. 5/15/09: SmartFLeX Technology, Inc. and Cendio AB announce new ThinLinc Version 3.0
"Version 3.0.0 of ThinLinc has been released with more than 120 enhancements. The most important new features are increased performance for streaming video and support for hardware-accelerated OpenGL applications on the server (through the use of VirtualGL.) Customers can now use a graphics processing unit (GPU) in the server to render 3D graphics, with many users sharing one GPU. Although these new performance features primarily affect applications running on Linux and Unix, Windows users will also see increased performance for streaming and graphics applications." says Hans Knobloch, President & CEO of SmartFLeX Technology."We have seen massive increase of the graphics performance and this will make big difference for many users. We have focused on the graphics performance because organizations within manufacturing industry, government and large universities have been requesting this functionality for some time”, says Peter Åstrand, ThinLinc Chief Developer.
